Cottages in Winkleigh
Like many Devon villages with a history dating back to Saxon times or earlier, Winkleigh sits strategically upon a great green hilltop. Surrounded by lush farmland, Winkleigh was, in Norman times, a part of the country gifted by William the Conqueror to his Queen Matilda.
It still boasts the remains of a twelfth-century castle and in more recent times has become known for cider-making, and, during World War II, when an airfield was built there, as a training base for Norwegian aviators.
