holiday cottage in Brixham, Devon with excellent views over the Harbour HARBOUR BREEZE Mount
Pleasant Road, Brixham, Devon
Harbour Breeze provides stunning views over Brixham harbour, Brixham marina, Torbay and the Dorset coastline beyond. The house stands on the hillside above the southern side of the harbour yet is right in the heart of Brixham. Just 2 minutes walk down Shinners or Cavern steps to Fore street and the shops where the harbour, marina and beach are just a short level stroll away. Equally close are a range of restaurants and pubs most being alongside the harbour. It has been fully renovated during the winter of 2007 / 2008 and is new to our holiday guests. The house offers up to 6 people quality accommodation on 3 levels in 3 good double sized bedrooms. All rooms are newly decorated in colour schemes of pale blues, neutrals, tranquil greens, hessian and whites. You enter the house on the middle level where you will find a cloakroom with a toilet and washbasin. Explore further and you will find 2 good sized bedrooms. Bedroom 2 has twin beds and bedroom 3 has a double and some views of the town. Both rooms provide good storage space for all those shorts and T-shirts vital for a seaside holiday. Full calendar of local events is available. Life in Brixham centres on the harbour and the bustle of one of Britain's busiest fishing ports. You can wander around the many harbourside shops, watch the fishermen unloading their daily catch, or take a look at the work of the artists who gather at Artist's Corner. Sample freshly caught seafood from one of the quayside's fish stalls, or relax in a pub or restaurant and watch life go by. Away from the harbour you can wander through a maze of narrow, winding streets, and within walking distance from the town centre you will find some of the Rivieras’ most spectacular scenery. Sandy beaches and secluded coves give way to the towering cliffs at Berry Head, offering breathtaking views of Torbay. Close by is the South West Coast Path which working west winds its way to nearby Kingswear and Dartmouth. The South Hams of South Devon is an area of exceptional beauty and contrast with river estuaries, rolling hills and thatched cottages surrounding the lovely old towns of Dartmouth, Totnes, Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Modbury and Ivybridge. For those interested in our history, close by are the castles of Dartmouth and Berry Pomeroy plus the National Trust properties of Coleton Fishacre and the gardens of Greenway House. For the golfers we have a local course at Churston which you will pass on your way towards Brixham, plus another course at Dartmouth. With sixty miles of spectacular coastline and beaches, a rural landscape that has hardly changed in centuries and the majestic granite slopes of Dartmoor, the South Hams is a unique area worthy of its national status as a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. Paignton has long sandy beaches, a colourful atmosphere, paddle-friendly waters and first class attractions are the essential ingredients for a magical family holiday. During the summer months life seems to revolve around the seafront which comes alive to the sound of laughter and holiday fun. But there is also another side to this distinctive seaside town, which can be found in the elegance of Oldway Mansion, the stories of old Paignton told at 500 year old Kirkham House and the green coastline around Elberry Cove. By day there are attractions galore – Paignton Zoo, Quaywest Waterpark and the Paignton to Kingswear Steam Railway. By night Paignton's seafront comes alive with illuminations and is perfect for an evening stroll. Torquay - Queen of the Riviera - has been one of the UK’s top holiday destinations since Victorian Times when the gentry promenaded, bathing huts were wheeled down the beaches and anyone who was anyone had an attractive villa overlooking the sea. It was the Victorians who first used the Riviera name to describe their favourite resort and their legacy remains to this day with sparkling white villas perched on the verdant hilltops, beautiful gardens around the seafront and elegant Victorian facades along the main streets. Torquay’s famous seven hills provide the backdrop to a waterfront scene that matches anything youíll find on the French Riviera. Torquay's waterfront is the focus of life in the town. Here you'll find the palm-lined promenade, seafront gardens, a lively harbour and an international marina. Yet within minutes of the town centre there are beautiful beaches easily accessible by foot, road or water. There is an abundance of pavement cafes, pubs, restaurants and nightlife, good quality shops and a host of attractions to suit every interest.
