Scattered with an array of white-washed, chocolate box cottages featuring thatched roofs, Winkleigh is a picturesque village and offers the most spectacular views of neighbouring countryside and Dartmoor. Sat in the heart of North Devon, Winkleigh is ideally situated for exploring all that Devon has to offer with virtually all the county being within an hour’s drive of the village.
Perhaps most famous for cider manufacturing, Winkleigh is home to Inch’s Cider, a popular war-time brand that has since been taken over by Bulmer’s. The original owners have since set up a cider shop in the town where you can sample the delights of a local cider from brewers who have over 30 years’ experience in cider making. There are two welcoming pubs in Winkleigh, The Seven Stars and The Kings Arms, which both serve local ciders along with other local produce. The pubs are also fantastic places to enjoy a traditional English pub meal with local produce being served daily.
A stay in the village is perfect for holiday makers who enjoy the great outdoors with plenty of rural walks to keep you busy. The village has four walks that are recommended while on holiday in Winkleigh, all taking in some of the rolling countryside that surrounds the village. Multiple access points for the South West Coast Path are within easy reach of the village too, giving you the ability to walk both the north and south coasts of Devon while on a holiday in Winkleigh.
Dartmoor National Park is only 20 minutes away from Winkleigh and attracts thousands of walkers, cyclists and nature lovers each year. There is plenty to explore on the moors with much of the wild open terrain being open to public. You can marvel at the natural beauty at your own pace in this unique location, which is also steeped in myths and legends.
