Situated on 10 acres of farmland in a quiet village 9 miles south of Bideford, this home is one of three barn conversions on-site offering a fantastic glimpse of rural life. Spacious and comfortable with beautiful original features, guests will love relaxing here after a day of discovering the surrounding area. Sit back with a book in the shared hot tub over in a separate barn or dine alfresco on your private decked patio for the perfect summer’s evening.

Accessed via a small flight of stairs, the front door of this reverse-level property opens into an attractive open-plan living area with apex ceilings and exposed beams and brickwork. The interior embraces its pastoral heritage, reminding you of the views you’ll see from the Juliet balcony at the end of the lounge. The bright kitchen area has everything you need for cooking a big breakfast before heading out to explore the grounds, which includes a children’s play area with climbing frame and swings. Don’t forget to collect eggs from the resident hens! Plus, you can make it a family affair and book more than one property to take advantage of a cosy detached family room that’s ideal for entertaining.

Take a short drive to Bideford (9 miles) to experience its wide range of restaurants, pubs and shops, or go on a pleasure trip from the harbour. Ride out to Lundy, an island where you’ll spot seals and puffins if you’re lucky. Close to home, the pub is 2 miles away along with a shop for all your essentials. A great place to spend a day is the working fishing village of Clovelly (10 miles), which boasts spectacular views over Bideford Bay, while friendly donkeys offer rides to children.

It would be helpful to have better guidance to the property when first going there. The cottage is fairly isolated and, after a long journey , or in the dark , with narrow roads you want to get there as easily as possible.

We have just had a week at Great Eckworthy and had a lovely time! Jane and Martin gave us a very warm welcome with a cream tea and it has been an amazing time! We timed it well hitting their last week of lambing and both my kids 11 and 12 really enjoyed it. My son was setting his alarm every morning to help with the feeding of the chickens, sheep anRead mored Lambs with Jane. Kept him off his tech which was just what we hoped for. A super cottage and a really relaxing chilled holiday. Hide
