This former WI meeting place offers a unique and memorable experience in the heart of Devon’s stunning Dartmoor National Park

Deep within Dartmoor National Park is a quirky single-level former meeting hall, that was once the local HQ for the Women’s Institute (WI). This property is layered in 20th century-style elegance, surrounded by rocky terrain and preserved woodland. In the cosy hamlet of Haytor Vale, just 10 miles away from Newton Abbot, you could enjoy exploring both historic market towns and whimsical waterfalls within the diverse habitats of Devon.

The exterior of this welcoming holiday home belies the true size of its interior. Its picture-perfect appearance evokes thoughts of a quaint village life, yet the inside is reminiscent of a dolls house. In fact, there is a dolls house in the open-plan living area where you can relax and dine after a long day walking the trails and lanes of Dartmoor. The galley-style kitchen can be put to work when you conjure up some tasty meals concocted from Devonshire produce before unfurling in front of the TV and wood burner-effect electric fire. Retire to cosy beds after planning more adventures in the vast open moors.

Don’t miss the chance to hike through one of the best national parks in the UK. This property is only 3 miles from Becky Falls which is at the heart of Dartmoor - a photographer’s dream. For an equally special experience, the Bronze-Age Merrivale Monuments are a must-see on a foggy morning, 16 miles from the property. This area is steeped in historic wonder and spectacular nature, so take advantage of both without ever having to leave the boundaries of the park.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 king-size and 1 twin
  • 1 Jack-and-Jill shower room with WC (no bath) and 1 shower room with WC
  • Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge with ice compartment and dishwasher
  • Washer/dryer and table top freezer in separate utility room
  • TV & DVD player
  • Wi-Fi included
  • Off-road parking for 2 cars
  • Enclosed garden with furniture
  • Bed linen and towels included
  • Electric and electric heating included

We loved our stay here! Comfortable, cosy and plenty of space for all of us (4 adults, 1 infant and a dog). Its literally less than 5 mins to Haytor, which is great for the walking the dog and we could be back to the main roads in 15mins for further adventures. Totally recommend. We booked late so didn't have a lot of choice for family of 4 + Pip the dog. But we lucked out with Haytor Lodge. Great location on the edge of Dartmoor, peaceful, not really overlooked. Comfortable, really spacious sitting room, TV in main bedroom as well as lounge, decent WiFi, well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher & microwave too. Good parking/great access to Moor. Pub round corner. Secure dog proof back garden. Attention to detail and a bit more cleaning would make this a fab property.

This lovely WI hall retains its character, while being very comfortable and well equipped. We loved the touch of strings of fairy lights across the living area. It is in a good location, close to the edge of the moor and the scenic Hay Tor. We had a very comfortable week at the Lodge. A great position for walking the Moors and centrally located for many of the sights in East Devon. Canonleigh Falls worth a visit and of course Dartmouth. Ullacombe farm cafe and shop a must. Great breakfast very reasonably priced, but must book a table, as it is so popular.

Haytor Vale Lodge is very comfortable, spacious and well-equipped, so much so that there was nothing that we needed to bring from home. Located on Dartmoor, the Lodge has excellent access to the moors Tors, beauty spots and the beach is only 30 mins drive away. The owner was extremely helpful and personable. We highly recommend this accommodation.
