Just a short drive will take you to the neighbouring town of Westward Ho! with its two miles of golden sands, perfect for surfers and sunbathers alike. You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing local days out; children will love the Milky Way and the Big Sheep, but you’ll also have the likes of RHS Rosemoor Gardens, day trips to the beautiful Lundy Island, the unique cliffside village of Clovelly, Tapeley Park and several National Trust properties to explore nearby. Set across three floors, many of the rooms look out across the estuary to the sea.

As you enter the property you will be greeted with the bright and airy kitchen/diner. The kitchen is equipped with an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave, TV and bi-folding doors out on to the patio. There is also additional seating just inside the bi-fold doors, where you can relax and soak up the views, and after a busy day you can retire as a family to the separate lounge to cosy up in front of the TV/Blu-ray. There is also a shower room with WC on the ground floor. The bedrooms are split between the other two floors and are accessed via steep cottage style stairs. On the first floor, you will find one double bedroom and a twin room, with a further double bedroom up a second set of stairs, along with the bathroom with shower over bath and WC. In both of the double rooms you can lie back and enjoy incredible sea views from the bed.

There is an outside enclosed patio area with a table and seating where you can enjoy the stunning sea views.

Paddles is very well situated as it is half way between the village and The Lifeboat station and right opposite The Path, which leads to a public car park. The beds are very comfortable and the upstairs bathroom very large with an excellent rain shower. I love Paddles, having stayed here a few times now. The cottage has everything you will need and is cosy even on the coldest days. Rather than parking on the main Quay car park try and buy a weekly ticket for the smaller one just up The Path opposite the cottage.

Needs a refresh...location is of course perfect but outside space is tiny and the inside is looking a little tired. They don't provide washing tablets so take some if you need to do washing. Reported several issues that need resolving. We will not be returning to Paddles unless we hear it has been upgraded.

Being able to open the glass door at the back up fully to take advantage of the view of the water was also a bonus! The position of Paddles is perfect, and we had a wonderful holiday. There are some issues that need addressing which have been reported to the owners. The steepness of the stairs should be made clear in the details.

Wonderful warm welcome with lamps on was a lovely touch. We loved the location right beside the sea, hearing the waves lap nearby over night was very special. The stairs were very steep which I thought could be mentioned in the blurb. We really enjoyed our stay in gorgeous Appledore, thank you.

Our second time staying in Paddles, fourth time on Irishs Street. The cottage was spotless, well equipped and really comfortable. The wine on arrival was much appreciated too. The stairs to both floors are steep so might be an issue for older guests. Cant wait to to return!

Paddles is the perfect getaway; we went as a family of three with 2 dogs. The quick access to the beach area was brilliant for everyone. The cottage itself is homely and welcoming. The Royal George Pub and the Coffee Cabin were both excellent, as was the open air tidal pool in Westward Ho!
