Situated right in the heart of pretty and historic Appledore, this lovely cottage is the perfect base for a romantic weekend away and exploring North Devon.

A beautifully designed property in the heart of the pretty fishing village of Appledore, Sailmakers Cottage benefits from its own off-road parking space and is just metres from the scenic quayside. Cosy and charming, it is the perfect base for a coastal getaway or family break.

Step into the cottage from the picturesque street and you’ll find yourself in the beautiful open-plan, split level lounge/kitchen/diner. It’s a pleasure cooking in the sleek kitchen to serve up on the circular dining table before retiring to the sofas for relaxing evenings chatting, reading or watching DVDs or your favourite series on the TV. If you don’t fancy cooking, there is an array of fantastic eateries just steps from the front door, from cafes to fish and chip shops and restaurants. When it’s time for bed, head upstairs to one of the two homely en-suite double bedrooms, one of which boasts a whirlpool bath. Like in all traditional fisherman’s cottages, the doorways and ceilings are lower than you might be used to, so please mind your head.

Quirky boutiques, eateries, a play park and a riverside promenade can be found in Appledore, and the riverside town of Bideford (4.5 miles) offers yet more choice and the outstanding Burton Art Gallery. Enjoy walks along the scenic Tarka Trail, beach days at Westward Ho! (3 miles) and trips to RHS Rosemoor (11.5 miles), The BIG Sheep (4 miles) and The Milky Way (11.5 miles). Just across the river is the village of Instow (5.5 miles) which can be reached by passenger ferry at high tide.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

It is right next door to a very small pub which didnt bother us as walls of cottage very thick. A great place with plenty to see and some good walks.

Lovely cottage, clean & all the equipment you will need for your stay. Fantastic little pub next door that has live music 4 times a week so you have to be aware of a bit of noise but it doesnt go on late into the night, about 11-30ish. But why not go next door and enjoy the music as the pub is really friendly & the atmosphere is cracking. We had a comfortable put of season stay here. The cottage was cosy and warm and the facilities were good. The location was nice being right in the heart of the village. I can imagine that this could be a problem in the season because of the proximity of the pub, fish and chip shop and hotel. Frequent delivery vans pulling up outside and blocking acRead morecess to the drive. The cottage is advertised with a parking space however, it is a courtyard and is really only suitable for a small car. Hide

The cottage was beautiful and in a fantastic location. I couldn't fault it. The only criticism would be that my husband kept banging his head on the bedroom and bathroom door, we were aware it was low ceilings. I loved it and the location was perfect for a chilled week.

We love Sailmakers Cottage. It was our 2nd visit. I appreciate a comfortable bed and mattress and also comfortable sofas in the lounge. Good kitchen facilities. Lots of options for eating in and out. We used the fleece covers for the sofas. Good sized tv. Thank you for another lovely stay.
