Visitors to Appledore can watch the boats come and go, sample the locally landed seafood, or perhaps take a trip across to the neighbouring village of Instow on a ferry. Following the River Torridge inland, visitors will come to the attractive white-washed town of Bideford, with its cobbled streets, antique shops, and choice of eateries. For those who really want to get away from day-to-day life, it is possible to take a boat from Bideford across to Lundy, a three-mile long island in the Bristol Channel, which is a haven for wildlife, including puffins and grey seals.

Guests enter this three-storey property on the second floor, where there are two bedrooms and a bathroom. The first bedroom is a double, which has its own TV/DVD, whilst the second is a tasteful and understated bunk bedroom. The bathroom on this floor has a shower-over-bath and WC. An open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner occupies the middle floor. To the rear of this room, a Juliet balcony offers views down to the patio and out across to the harbour. These views can be enjoyed from the lounge area’s comfortable sofa, as can the smart TV and hi-fi. A contemporary dining table separates the lounge area from the kitchen which is well-equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, and dishwasher. Finally, the lower-ground floor is where guests will find the spacious master bedroom suite with its king-size bed, en-suite shower over bath and WC, and doors which open onto the property’s enclosed garden. There is also a lobby area just adjacent to the en-suite which houses the washing machine.

Outside, there is a small patio area to the front of the property, and to the rear an enclosed garden which is accessed via the master bedroom, which is part patioed seating area and part attractive shingle.

We had a wonderful few days away staying at Tarka's Tale. We loved Appledore and the house was in a perfect location, walking distance from the shops. The house was well equipped, very clean and in a great location. Appledore itself is stunning, lovely beaches nearby and fantastic pubs and restaurants. We will definitely come back.
