Situated in the pretty village of Abbotsham which offers easy access to the North Devon Coast Path, you can enjoy beautiful walks with uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean. A great location for keen surfers with a plethora of sandy beaches nearby including Croyde, Woolacombe and across the border into Cornwall, Newquay. On a clear day whilst visiting one the nearby beaches you will be able to see the infamous Lundy Island on the horizon, which is home to an array of wildlife. You could take a day trip to the beautiful island on the MS Oldenburg which departs from the historic port town of Bideford. The Victorian seaside village of Westward Ho! is just a 5 minute drive and is named after Charles Kingsley’s novel of the same name. Brightly coloured beach huts line the promenade which is also home to Rudyard Kipling’s poem ‘If’ which has been set in to the pavement. Enjoy the local area with plenty of pretty gardens and National Trust locations to explore, including Tapely Park, RHS Rosemoor and Arlington Court.

This traditional stone cottage, which retains many charming and characterful features including exposed stonework and beams, sits adjacent to the owners’ Georgian home, but your privacy is assured. On entering you will find yourself in the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. With a Smart TV and warming wood burner (first basket of logs included), the comfy lounge is an ideal space to unwind in and enjoy the crackle from the fire on a cool evening. The dining area is located by the window which is a great spot for a candlelit dinner. Heading over to the stylish kitchen you will find everything you may need including an electric oven/hob, fridge with ice compartment, microwave and dishwasher so preparing your favourite meals is easy whilst you’re away. The cottage has a pretty double bedroom with a comfy bed and a couple of steps lead you into the en-suite shower room which is complete with WC, and there is also a handy washing machine located here.

Outside there are two pretty patio areas, one to the front of the property, which has a pretty bistro set and spring flowers and is a great place to enjoy your morning coffee. The other is adjacent to the property and offers an enclosed garden with a patio, lawn and BBQ which is great for those who are looking to bring their four-legged friends.

Outside area not directly accessed from cottage made it difficult to let dog out at night to pee and Road outside front door very busy just to let dog loose. Apart from that cosy cottage with underfloor heating. Great weekends stay.

We stayed 4 nights and would definitely recommend the gatehouse. It was exactly as seen in pictures and had everything we needed. It is in a lovely location with beautiful surroundings . The log fire was great and the welcome basket with presecco was a nice surprise . Thankyou

A beautiful cottage which was well thought out. The fairy lights set a beautiful scene in the evenings, the heated floor was glorious (we visited mid Jan). All the little touches were there. The cottage was spotlessly clean, everything you need is there in the kitchen. The bed was really comfortable and the shower was brilliant. I cannot praise this cottage enough. Ideally situated for touring. Would highly recommend and we will be booking there again on our next visit.

A lovely cosy cottage, with everything we needed for a few days away with our dog. A very cosy, comfortable cottage in the chill of Autumn, thanks to the underfloor heating and wood burner. Well equipped and tastefully decorated. The owners left a great welcome pack, treats for the dog as well as the humans and were very quick to solve a problem that occurred. Good pub nearby and close to the coast path.

Beautiful cottage, very well equipped. We stayed for a week and made full use of the kitchen and bbq. The welcome pack was very much appreciated. Lovely beaches nearby, and coastal paths up the lane, just be mindful of the traffic, especially if taking a dog.

A lovely little cottage in a good location. Quite a stretch up the lane to the footpath which led across fields to the cliff tops but well worth the effort. We walked from the cottage across to Westward Ho, which was just over 11 miles round trip. The views from the top were beautiful. Appledore was a lovely little town to visit and Instow has the Read moreperfect beach for dogs. Tarka trail is nice to walk! Bideford Quay was worth the little trip! Great little cottage ideal for a couple and 1 dog, spacious inside and the underfloor heating throughout and the log burner are great when its chilly! The owners left a cold bottle of prosseco, crisps & cookies for us on arrival, which was a great treat after a 5 hour drive, thank you! The cottage was lovely and clean. Loved the underfloor heating. Had everything you needed. Perfect location for countryside or coastal walks. The welcome basket of goodies was enjoyed by humans and dog (he loved his welcome biscuits) We all enjoyed our stay very much.

Clear directions, cleanliness exceptional, thoughtful hamper, cosy cottage for one or two people, garden and parking adjacent to cottage, comfy bed, property situated in countryside, nearest shops a few miles, popular pub in village, beautiful walks with many dog friendly beaches closeby. We loved our stay at The Gatehouse, it's a lovely little cottage with everything you could need to live comfortably for your stay. The location is perfect and in short driving distance of Westward Ho! (5 minutes) and Instow (10 minutes) which having such good weather on our week we spent plenty of time on the beach haha.
