This beautiful railway carriage has been in the same family for generations and having been lovingly renovated, fitted and furnished, now provides a truly unique and fabulously comfortable couples retreat.

Set near the Haldon Hills of South Devon, this bijou bolthole is made for hopeless romantics. With vintage pieces, quirky charm and contemporary creature comforts, it's a wonderful hideaway. Or see wildlife and historic landmarks along the River Exe estuary and headlands of South Devon.

Evoking the Golden Age of travel, the charming interiors will have you at hello with many original features giving a nod to its Victorian past. Antique furniture and period details blend seamlessly with contemporary tech from the Smart TV to the music systems. Play ticket inspector with a walk along the full-length carriage hallway, and marvel at the clever living design before throwing open the French doors to the spacious veranda where you can sit and enjoy panoramic countryside views towards Exeter, or dine alfresco in the garden BBQ area. Guests are also invited to stroll around 16 acres of private grounds, including a secluded valley and newly planted woodland.

If you have a head for heights, tread the treetops and fly on a zip wire at Haldon Forest Park (6 miles). Enjoy the sandy shores of Dawlish Warren Beach (13.5 miles), or visit the cathedral city of Exeter (3 miles) for historic architecture, a shopping spree, or a scenic cruise towards the Estuary at Exmouth. Picture-postcard surroundings are in easy reach - discover 14th-century Powderham Castle (10 miles), the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site (17 miles), and the English Riviera at Torbay (26 miles).

We enjoyed staying at the Three Hares Carriage very much. It's not big but living in an historical train carriage was amazing. There is easy parking (I refuse to stay anywhere this is not the case) and superb views across the Devon countryside including 2 private fields that we had access to with a picnic spot. The owners were around if we needed tRead morehem but not intrusive. The building is very warm so would be good all year. Hide
