West Saunton Cottage is set in a peaceful rural hamlet just a mile from Saunton’s golden sandy beach. A 16th century cottage exuding charm, it is a cosy base for a family or couple to explore the North Devon coast. The champion links course at Saunton Golf Club is within a mile, and in Braunton (1.5 miles) you’ll find shops, great restaurants, supermarkets and access to the beautiful Braunton Burrows UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Characterful wooden beams, white-washed stone walls and deep-set windows create a welcoming atmosphere which strikes you the moment you step into the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Upstairs, watch your head on the sloping ceilings which make the two bedrooms cosy and unique. They share a bathroom with handheld shower over the bath. On cooler evenings relax on the brightly cushioned lounge sofas in front of the wood burner effect gas fire while your favourite DVD plays on the TV. Cook up delicious meals in the kitchen area to enjoy at the wooden dining table or outside on the small private patio with bistro-style furniture. On sunny evenings, enjoy picnics in the shared garden.

Saunton beach can be reached on foot, (partly on the main road), or visit Devon’s other top surfing beaches of Croyde (4 miles), Putsborough (4.5 miles) and Woolacombe (6 miles). View Damien Hirst’s famous bronze statue “Verity” in the coastal town of Ilfracombe (9 miles) and take your pick of fantastic family attractions in the area, including Watermouth Castle (13.5 miles), Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park (15.1 miles) and Exmoor Zoo (19.5 miles). Great location and huge potential. Bed was comfortable. Sadly small things disappointed.

The cottage is cosy and well equipped. The beach is a bit of a walk along a busy narrow road. Adequate parking for cars but privacy is limited due to it being one of four cottages with a larger house next door. The 2nd bedroom has a low sloping ceiling so feels a bit small. No shower in cottage, but bath has a hand held shower attachment although aRead more bit cumbersome to use, also you have to climb in and out of the bath in order to shower which may be a problem if you have mobility issues.
