The Pelican Fish and Chips – Barnstaple, EH31 2BX. Voted the ‘Best Fish and Chip Restaurant’ by the National Fish and Chip Awards (2018) this beloved establishment is set in the popular town of Barnstaple in North Devon. They think sustainably and buy wild-caught fish and farmed fish from responsibly managed fisheries, and they are the only fish and chip shop in Devon to be awarded the MSC certification! So if you are conscious about where your food comes from, this is the place for you. 

Squires Fish Restaurant – Braunton, EX33 2JL. Squires prides itself on doing the classic British dish of fish and chips proud and is considered by many to be the best fish restaurant in North Devon. Here you will find delicious fish including cod, plaice and haddock which you can accompany with mushy peas or gherkins. You will also get the good old classics like scampi, burgers and chicken too. With lots of vegan and vegetarian options too, there is something to suit everyone! 

Seahorse Fish and Chips – Northam, EX39 1BS. This is a friendly, traditional fish and chip shop set in the town of Northam in North Devon. Take a walk in the Northam Burrows Country Park and then pop by here to fill up on a scrumptious meal. They have a great choice of fresh fish on the menu and we have heard their handmade fishcakes are pretty good too. The kids will love the children’s meal box where they have a choice of meal, chips and a drink. 

Mr Chips – Bideford, EX39 2HW. Mr Chips is a fun and characterful fish and chip shop based in the busy tourist town of Bideford. As well as a takeaway, there is also a restaurant so if your legs feel tired you can opt to sit in too. Battered and grilled cod and haddock are popular on the menu but there are also burgers, sausages, pies and chicken options up for grabs too. You’ll go mad for the range of desserts too and they even have their own Mr Chips branded Amber Ale!

Simply Fish – Brixham TQ5 8AF. This is a compact and modern seafood restaurant and take away with large windows, friendly staff and a laidback vibe. Come and sample their beautifully cooked fish and hand-cut chips and enjoy sitting in or taking it away. Why not take your food down to the harbour and have a lazy evening watching the boats bob about in the water? It’s a lovely way to spend time in Brixham. 

Frydays Traditional British Fish and Chips – Seaton, EX12 2LW. This is a great establishment serving the finest British potatoes along with the highest quality seafood sourced from sustainable stocks. Their menu currently includes over 16 different varieties of seafish and they use local suppliers for their potatoes and award-winning butcher's sausages. You can sit in or take your food away, but whatever you choose, the food will taste amazing. 

The Jolly Good Fish Café – Teignmouth, TQ14 8EA. This is a friendly and welcoming fish and chip shop serving up the finest of fast food with everything on the menu that a good chip shop could have. You will love the colourful exterior and you are bound to get a nice welcome from the staff as they cook up your tasty food. 

Mariners Fish and Chips – Paignton, TQ4 6AE. Offering a wide range of meals to suit all types of diets, this friendly restaurant/takeaway is extremely popular with locals and tourists alike. They even have a special menu for senior citizens and the kids will love what’s on offer too. They have had good reviews on TripAdvisor for their gluten-free batter; some even say these are the best gluten-free fish and chips in Devon!
