This property is situated off a pedestrian walkway, just a short walk away from the centre of the pretty fishing village of Appledore, which itself is situated on the estuary of the rivers Torridge and Taw, and makes an idyllic place for a relaxing holiday. Visitors can wander the narrow streets, browse the shops, sample the local seafood in the village’s bistros and pubs, and watch the fishing boats bob in the attractive quay, all within a few minutes’ walk of the cottage. For a change of scenery, there is a seasonal ferry which runs across the estuary to the neighbouring village of Instow, where there is a sand and shingle beach.

On opening the front door to this attractive 17th century property, four steps down bring guests to the relaxing lounge/diner with its beamed ceiling, TV, and hi-fi. There is a dining table seating four, beyond which a door leads through to the kitchen: with an electric oven, hob, microwave, and fridge with ice compartment. The property’s bathroom is also located on the ground floor and offers a shower-over-bath and WC. Stairs from the lounge/diner lead to a galleried landing, off from which there are two bedrooms. The first of these is an attractive double room with bedside tables and a dressing table, whilst the second bedroom is a bunk bedroom.

Outside, the property benefits from an enclosed courtyard patio located adjacent to the property, which has a BBQ and garden furniture, allowing guests to enjoy al fresco meals. Guests should note that there is a covered pond in the garden, and therefore children will need careful supervision.

Access to the Sail Loft is a bit tricky due to the narrow alley way. I found it was all we needed for four of us. Bathroom could do with an update but everything we needed was there. There is no outdoor space and the two main sash windows overlook someone elses courtyard, so we didnt want to open them. Small but comfortable. Parking in Appledore isRead more a lottery. Charming cottage in a fabulous location, but the narrow ally to get to the front door was slippy. Would not recommend for anyone with mobility issues.

Cottage very tired and needs a good clean. Information on facilities out of date and incorrect. Car parking on road can be difficult unless you have a small car. On the plus side location good. Bed comfortable and linen/towels very clean. On the whole disappointed with cottage maintenance with no microwave instructions/ whereabouts of electricity mRead moreeter- which you may need as the toaster blows the fuses. Great little place a lot more roomier than I imagined it would be ( im 6ft6 ) Thankyou for having us we had a great holiday . We had never been to Appledoor before but will definitely be visiting again . Ps . Can I ask when it was converted from a sail loft and how old is the building ?

Our family - two adults, two children aged 7 & 5 spent a week here at the start of the summer holidays we had a brilliant time. Plenty of space for the four of us, good WiFi and the kitchen had everything we needed - bonus points for the cafetire! Wed booked an online shop which worked really well - be aware the fridge is fit for purpose but small.Read more The bedrooms are good sizes with lots of drawer space in both and the kids loved the bunk beds. Great location, nicely converted sail loft with interesting features. Very peaceful and bed was comfortable. Good storage space inside too which is great when you're away (hooks, shelves etc). A couple of minor quibbles about the alleyway but nothing major. Overall very good place to stay.

Ideal location for ameties,Appledore is a very friendly pretty village.Cottage was clean and comfortable with all you need. Be aware on arrival,the passageway to the The Sail Loft is very narrow,and half way up the hill. If you carry on to the top,then turn right, you end up at another cottage of THE SAME NAME.!!

Lovely little property but in need of some modernisation. Extractor fan in bathroom was broken. It is very dark inside. It was nice that there were childrens cups and bowls. No high chair available. Be on the look out, my son was bitten by a false widow spider that had climbed into his trainer inside the property overnight. The cottage was very clean and tidy and well equipped. It was ideally located five minutes fairly flat walk to the centre.
