This beautifully converted one-bedroom cottage on the edge of Exmoor National Park has been designed by the owners sparing no attention to detail, making this a truly unforgettable romantic getaway.
The cottage is ideal for couples looking for a rural retreat. It’s perfectly situated on the Devon/Somerset border with pretty little towns close by to visit. Under 3 miles away, you will find Bampton, a small town set in a wooded valley, a tributary of the River Exe, with cafes and restaurants, or visit the lively town of Dulverton which is 7 miles away where you will find a plethora of shops, cafes restaurants and pubs. Other points of interest include water sports at Wimbleball lake; Knightshayes, owned by the National Trust and set in 250 acres of woodland; the Valley of Rocks, and Lynton and Lynmouth. This is also a stunning area to put your walking boots on and enjoy many local walks, both in the countryside and on the North Devon coastline.
This fabulous retreat is approached down a long driveway, where you will come to Southcombe Farm and the cottage is the furthest end of this Devon longhouse. As you step into the cottage, you will be entering the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. This wonderfully designed, open-plan area has a dining table for two and a sumptuous sofa on which to relax and watch your favourite movies on the Smart TV, sitting in front of the cosy wood burner. The designer kitchen is fitted with an electric oven and hob, microwave, Belfast sink, slimline dishwasher, fridge with icebox and a coffee pod machine – it’s a great space for trying out new recipes and lazy breakfasts. From here, you head up the spiral staircase to the master bedroom. With vaulted ceiling and low beams, it’s a wonderful place to relax and unwind, with a king-size bed, dressing table, fitted shelving and hanging space. Adjacent is the luxury bathroom with a roll-top bath, shower attachment and WC. In the outdoor boot room, you can leave your muddy boots and wet clothing; the laundry room is next door and houses the washing machine.
Venture down into the landscaped garden and you will find different areas to sit and enjoy. There is a gas barbecue for dining alfresco, a bench next to the pond, or comfortable outdoor chairs in a shady area under the trees to escape the heat of the day or to watch the sun setting. There is undercover parking for two cars and a bike store.
