Surrounded by beautiful countryside, there are many walks and cycling routes around the area, including the Tarka Trail which offers 180 miles of off-road cycling, with tearooms and pubs along the way. The local pub offers hearty homemade food which is a delight after a walk up to the top of Codden Hill where you can see Dartmoor. Take a trip to the picturesque village of Instow (10 miles), well-known for its attractive dog-friendly, sandy waterfront, with a cafe, several pubs and restaurants. In the summer months, hop on the pedestrian boat ferry across to Appledore and stroll around its pretty cobbled streets, with a selection of independent shops and cafes. For surfing lovers, visit Westward Ho! (11 miles) with its 3 miles of sand and surf.
